Akuratatha is a non-profit organization. Akuratatha means “supporting each other in the fields of learning and teaching”.

Our concept is to support, guide and motivate children from families with low social status. We also aim to improve their English language proficiency and to enhance their social skills, in order to provide them with better work possibilities. To reach our objectives, we are running a variety of programs.

Akuratatha is based in a small town called Akuressa. This is in the district of Matara, south-west Sri Lanka, 20 km from the Indian Ocean. Akuressa is sourrounded by paddy fields, tea plantations, cinnamon-, coconut- and rubber plantations. Most of the people living here are Singhalese Buddhist farming people, leading simple and peaceful lives.
